Aloha mai kākou!
Hi friends!! I hope you’re all doing well. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about reconnecting with myself. I touched on this in my last postcard, but it’s something that’s really been on my mind.
Studying abroad is truly a time of growth; with that said, it’s also easy to feel like you’ve changed in ways you didn’t expect or even lost parts of yourself along the way. But something I’ve been realizing is that you can always come back to yourself and the things you love. It’s your choice.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve gotten back into reading and drawing. I’ve been taking walks, finding quiet places to sit, people watching, listening to music, and letting myself slow down. I’ve also been trying new things, even random ones like learning how to do a headstand. Oh! I also tried cannolis for the first time from Arà: è Sicilia, and I think I might be a little addicted. But back to what I was saying, it sounds so simple, but even just going outside, walking around, and letting yourself wander without a plan really does something for you. It reminded me that it’s okay to put myself first. It’s okay to try new things, pick up old hobbies again, or start over.
So, I'm telling you, if you want to do something, then literally do it. Don’t let the mental barriers you create in your head stop you from trying. Half of the time, the only thing holding you back is how you see yourself and what you think you can or can’t do. Your perception shapes your reality. And at the end of the day, It doesn’t matter what other people think. You don’t exist for them, you exist for you.
So be who you want to be.
Until then, stay tuned for my next postcard from Alisha Abroad.
A hui hou.
